I especially had not considered the fact the addiction rate would indeed be higher if more drugs had been offered. I mostly just wanted to relate this information becuase I think it's good food for thought. Of course people need more than food, water, shelter, and money. But I think the issues with our society are ones which affect even the wealthy. I thank you for commenting and becoming a follower, I know it can be time consuming to read and comment on everyone's blog. Thanks Again, and I'll check in again soon.NHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17466126254034203883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5266670669659028301.post-27721625812815167082009-05-21T06:23:33.867-07:002009-05-21T06:23:33.867-07:00I can certainly see what you are getting at. Unfor...I can certainly see what you are getting at. Unfortunately, none of us have a Bruce Alexander God to put us in paradise. We are stuck with life as we know it. And it is a struggle. It is a struggle that some are better equipped to handle than others. Others are fortunate to have excellent guidance coupled with excellent receptiveness to that guidance. Environment is more than just the physical dimensions we live in or the rich would have no cause to be addicted. I think there is likely some genetic factor combined with learned responses to stress combined with individual personality.
I think perhaps Alexander's experiment might have turned out somewhat different if the rats were offered other drugs as well. Alcohol, thc - anything that might provide a different kind of escape better suited for some rats. I think even in paradise, there would be more rats addicted to something. The morphine just didn't scratch the itch that some had so they left it alone.
Morphine might only be pleasurable to some, or it may only seem pleasurable depending on the physical environment. We might all be looking for something but don't have the opportunity or guts to experiment.Jeanniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15320507412459242451noreply@blogger.com
