So I was watching a movie the other day and there was a concept I found very interesting. Have you ever thought about what your last meal will be? What's the last song you will hear? Will I know ahead of time? Will I get to pick my last outfit? I know that my last outfit might sound silly, but doesn't it make you want that outfit to be a good one? The thought that what I'm eating right now might be the last thing I ever eat makes me want to make this meal awesome. And it is in a way. Fresh basil, fresh tomato and spinach, toasted on just made bread with perfect cheddar melted on top. It makes me want to make every song I listen a really great one. It just makes me want to make everything I do worth it, because if it is my last, I want it to be a good one.

That's kind of a cool concept. But, maybe it's my age, but I'm not so worried about it. I'm past the age of having to be "in fashion". Food really never tastes as good now as it used to (yet for some reason I'm eating too much anyway - although it's less than before). What I find I'm thinking about now is that, now that I am closer to having surgery that will keep me from having permanent nerve damage and will hopefully lessen the pain I've had for 30 years, I'm worried some idiot will slam into me while driving and I'll be paralyzed for the rest of my life. Cuz shit like that happens.

apparently on death row the overwhelmingly popular choice is a hamburger

i'm not sure whether burger king wins out over macdonalds... i know macdonalds seem to prefer pickles while burger king go for salad ~ but it's hardly the time to be worrying about healthy eating

Jeannie - I hear what you're saying. Of course it's not the most important part of death, the song, the clothes, whatever. But it's interesting for me to wonder how much I may have changed by the time I die; or if I die sooner than I think, maybe I'll be wearing these crappy, paint-covered gym shorts and a pit-stained t-shirt. I hope not, though. I hope I'm happy when I die, doing something I love, at least. I hope it's not in a car crash. But if it is, I hope it's not painful.

Gledwood - I'm not surprised that the hamburger is a top choice for a last meal request. It's a pretty satisfying experience, a hamburger is. With home made french fries, or even sweet potato fries. But I wonder, like you said, do they just get a crappy burger from the prison kitchen? or do they get to pick the origin of the burger, within reason, of course? Could they, for example, ask for their uncle to bring a burger from his own grill for the last meal? Because that would definitely make a difference to me. And, I agree, it's no time for healthy eating. I'd make sure chocolate eclairs were part of my last meal, if I had any say in it. And I'd eat as many as I could possibly stomach. Oh my, I LOVE chocolate eclairs.
